What we do and why we do it.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is one of the most widely used and successful
therapeutic interventions. A fairly prescriptive intervention, it is perfect to be used in
schools and is recommended by DfE and NHS
In any therapeutic intervention, the relationship between therapist and client is one of the
most, if not the most, crucial elements. By training and empowering school staff to use CBT
we are improving the chances of any intervention being successful.
CBT is a talking therapy where the therapist works with the client to change thoughts and
effect change. There is no psychoanalysis involved, or any deep delving into the
Samantha Garner, founder of Garner Education Services Ltd., is a qualified Cognitive
Behavioural Therapist and has worked in a school as a SENCo so she understands the
challenges faced supporting mental health in schools. She is a published author with
Routledge Press (
Mental Health in Education - Building good foundations) and regularly travels

- The ReBalance Programme
The ReBalance Programme is a collection of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy activities
and discussion sheets. As a centre, you choose appropriate activities according
to the need of the student and the time available. All activities in two formats
– one for primary and one for secondary.
These activities are carefully designed so that your staff can easily use them to
support students in managing their mental health and overcoming difficulties. It
is a guided process where you are helping the student learn more effective ways of
managing with their issues. These tools help them learn independent life-long
techniques and skills.
